Digital Narratives of the Amazon

This project was embeded within a wider an action research project started in 2015, consisting in a series of activities conducted by Bournemouth University (BU) scholars and media professionals in partnership with  the University of San Francisco in Quito (USFQ) to work alongside the Quijos, a native community of the Amazon, in order to preserve their cultural heritage, language and history. Media literacy and production skills were provided via workshops, which aimed to improve the visibility and participation of the community in wider social and political affairs. The outputs were also intended to serve as pedagogic tools to teach future generations as well as a testimony of a culture and language which is gradually dissapearing.

The most recent project involved the production of the film ‘Kallary San Pablo Kitilly Causaycuna’, writen by the indigenous artist Gisela Yumbo and based on a folk tale about the origins of the Killy Pampa community. The BU and USQF team worked with the Nación Originaria Quijos ‘NAOQUI’, to bring the story to the screens.
